Proposed  Alumni Centre of UIAA, Enugu State Branch

A capital intensive project that is of paramount importance to the UIAA, Enugu State Branch but which nonetheless, the Branch has resolved to embark upon is the construction of an Alumni Centre in Enugu, the State capital, also known in Nigeria as the Coal City. The concept of the Centre is that it will serve as a veritable rallying point for all alumni of the University of Ibadan in the Coal City and its environs, and their families.

It is envisaged that the Centre will incorporate a 1000 seating capacity ultra modern auditorium, several committee rooms, offices for the officers of the Branch, restaurant, bar, indoor and outdoor games facilities, swimming pool and guest chalets for alumni in transit among other facilities. In essence, the Centre will be the main hub of alumni official, social and sporting activities in the Coal City and at the same time, tower high as a signature project of the Association in Enugu State.

If as the Chinese proverb says, the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step, the first crucial initiative taken by the Branch towards the actualization of the project, was to apply to the State Government for an allocation of a plot of land for it. Happily, the Enugu State Government graciously obliged the Association with the request. Following this development, the Association moved ahead to perfect the deed of ownership of the allocation.

While all that was in progress, the Branch commissioned an Architect who has already produced an architectural sketch of the Centre for the consideration and approval of the Branch before the final drawing is produced. Meanwhile, the Branch is on the brink of commencement of fencing/walling of the project site.
In view of the intrinsic nature and magnitude of the project, it is evident that the Branch has taken much of the fundamental actions necessary for its take off.

The next stage of the project, which will be undertaken after the fencing, is the construction of the Centre’s edifice. How far and how fast that stage will go, depends largely on the quantum of finance the Branch can muster.

The Branch welcomes philanthropic individuals and organizations who are willing to contribute their quota towards the realization of this lofty project not to hesitate to do so. Such contribution/donation which could be by electronic transfer, bank draft or cash should be made in favour of UI Alumni Enugu Branch into A/C No - 6060130614. Bank - Fidelity Bank Plc.

Long live the UIAA, Enugu State Branch!
