University of Ibadan Alumni Association
Enugu State Branch

Worthy Ambassador, WA, is a very highly esteemed honour/award which in the hierarchical ranking of the Association’s honours/awards, stands next to Most Distinguished Alumnus MDA.

Both MDA and WA constitute the instrumentality through which the Association accords recognition to achievement of excellence and high performance by their recipients in their chosen career as well as their positive contribution to both the society and the UIAA.

This award does not come all the time. The first and only time the award was given; it went to very few UItes selected after a very stringent scrutiny. Interestingly, a member of UIAA Enugu State Branch was among the few that made the list.

Now, please meet below the UIAA National Honours Awardee from the Enugu State Branch:

A Worthy Ambassador Awardee

Sir Emet Mbelu
Sir Emet Mbelu

Sir Emet Ibegbunam Mbelu was born 29th April, 1954 to the family of Mr.  & Mrs. Henry Nwokonkwo Mbelu (MON) at Obalande Lagos, present Lagos State.

A great son of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Sir Emet Ibegbunam Mbelu grew up in a family of six boys and was brought up in a strict Anglican home.  Growing up was very exciting as he had a mother who behaved like militant due to the tedious nature of bringing up all male children, and probably that contributed in no small measures in the accomplishment of all my siblings in their different  callings.

He had his Primary education at Christ Church, Uwani, Enugu, Enugu State in late sixties, thereafter, proceeded to Achi High School, Achi Enugu State.

He later moved to Christ the King College (C.K.C), Onitsha where he graduated in 1974.

Sir Mbelu gained admission to the University of Ibadan in 1975 at the then University of Ibadan, Jos Campus and later proceeded to the Main Campus, Ibadan in 1976 to study Sociology.

A very active member of the prestigious Zik Hall, he was a member of many social organizations having been housed in Block ‘B’ of the Hall.

On graduation in 1980, he served his NYSC at Ilorin, Kwara State.  Upon conclusion of the Service, he joined Radio Nigeria, Enugu National Station in 1981.

Employed as a Reporter, he served for many years in the News Directorate, contributed to many high-point coverages as well as wrote many focused based News Analyses that were broadcast on the Network News of Radio Nigeria, Abuja.
He later on in 1996 transferred his services to Marketing Directorate of Radio Nigeria where he worked all through until his retirement on 29th April, 2014 as Director Marketing.

Sir Emet Mbelu got married to Lady Maria Mbelu on 18th September, 1986.  The marriage was blessed with three boys and one girl, all graduates.
